Phase II
Construction for Phase II began in April 2006. Significant
additions and changes will be visible in Phase II:
- WOW received Right-of-Entry from the City and the
project was designated a City of Houston Esplanade project.
- Existing utility poles in the center of the roundabout
were removed.
- Installation of underground sleeving for electrical
wiring for lighting and irrigation.
- Irrigation for the trees and the center of the
roundabout.
- Uplighting for the trees and signage.
- Also included in Phase II is a stacked stone wall
surrounding the mighty post oak in the center of the roundabout.
- A stacked stone wall will be placed in each of the
four surrounding gardens, with signage identifying the four neighboring
communities, Camp Logan, Rice Military, Woodcrest and Crestwood.
- The garden at the northern point of the roundabout
will be the location of the Washington on Westcott Roundabout sign and the
donor wall.
- Riparian features including dry river beds, stepping
stones and boulders will add interest to the gardens.
- Mounding and garden elevations will be added for
future plantings.
- Special street lighting will replace the current
utility lights and WOW banners will be hung from the light poles.
- Finally, benches to accommodate pedestrian visitors
and trash receptacles will complete Phase II in October 2006.
